RECORD COVER DESIGN PROPOSAL FOR AN ELECTRONIC DUO
Digitally manipulated photocollages created in Adobe Photoshop, using my original artworks, combined
with type.
MUMMY is a music project of Jo Spratley on vocals (Cardiacs, Spratleys Japs, Mikrokosmos) and Bic Hayes (Cardiacs, Levitation, Dark Star, Ring, Mikrokosmos, ZOFFF).
I designed the cover for their EP.
Jo specifically requested I use my original artwork ‘This Suffering Flesh’ for the cover.
I completed the design with another one of my original works ‘Spinning’.
Using the female form folded and manipulated into almost abstract forms, I visually conveyed the artistry of Jo Spratley’s use of her vocals. I chose the type in the deep dark red colour to underpin the strength and depth of Jo's lyrics and vocals.
The atmosphere of the record is dark, dynamic yet dreamy. Spratley’s lyrics and vocals hit in very intimate way,
and I wanted to visually represent that.
I believe Jo intended that also, that’s why she wanted to use the artwork for this album.
